Day 03 (27-03-2020)
Needs and Wants
The term 'Need' is well understood by all of us. It is something that is a necessity to survive; for instance, Food, Water, Air and a Shelter are the basic needs. The term 'Want' is a materialistic approach towards a need. This can be understood very easily and clearly. Today, I have understood the same well enough and I can't wait to share that with all of you.
If we take one of the basic need, let's say Water and try to see it in the form of Want. Drinking water, using it for bathing or washing utensils and clothes comes into so far so good category. The materialistic want makes you be selfish and you try to use it unnecessarily. Like say, washing the glass every time you use it to drink your juice or soft drink. This can be easily saved if one uses the bottle directly. In my case, the two guys with me and I, who live away from our families, can go ahead and use that soft drink bottle rather than a glass and then wash it again and again.
This sounds pretty easy, isn't it and we are still thinking that how much water will be saved by this. I am not good at numbers and equations but i can say for sure that by the end of the month we can save enough water for a poor family to drink from for at least a week or two. Think and ponder upon this.
Okay, let's move onto the second example. In current age, Internet is not a want but a need not the basic one but still it is, no question on that. But how do we as humans answer ourselves when we have internet on our phones (wherein each member of the family has his/her own) but we still require WiFi or Broadband connections. Yes, I know the answer. The speed, extra work from office or school assignments etc. But, are we really so zombie-fied with internet that it has moved its place from want to secondary need and now it is on the list of our basic need.
Back in Kashmir, when the lock-down started due to the abrogation of article 370, we were not only left without essentials commodities but no phones, no landlines, no internet for more than 100 days. Guess what, I am still alive and blogging. This states that for me mobile phone and internet wasn't a basic necessity but yes it was a want, with which i coped up in some days itself and i literally felt rejuvenated.
Today let's pledge to ourselves and try to find the list of things in our current life which are our wants and needs. I bet you all will find numerous things which should exchange places. Some Needs should go into the list of Wants and vise verse. Wherein some should just be taken off from both. So, pledge to your own self that I will be overcoming my wants which shouldn't be on the list at all and I will balance life with peace. Till then Bon Voyage guys, Sayonara!!
P.S. Today's positive is that the Human Body is a Robot of an extreme level. It is programmed to learn the whole life. Thus, we all make sure that whatever we give it as an input, it will process the same and the output will be nothing out of the box. Thus, help yourself in growing and achieving the things you've always desired of. Nobody else is going to do that for you. Accept the harsh reality, grind hard, sweat more and kick yourself to do better every day you open your eyes.
